What is the size of the Alton community and surrounding areas?
Alton Proper is approximately 35,000 people. There are many connecting areas that add to the Riverbend area. In total, Alton Memorial Hospital services a five-county area with a population just under 230,000.
Is the hospital's financial outlook strong?
In 2010, the hospital opened the Duncan Wing, which houses 76 state-of-the-art private rooms. The major $45 million expansion project quickly changed the face of how health care is delivered in the River Bend area. In addition to the hospital, Alton Memorial operates Eunice Smith Home, a freestanding, 62-bed long-term care and skilled nursing facility, on the hospital campus. Alton Memorial is a member of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation's largest health care organizations, with annual net revenues of $3.2 billion and more than 26,000 employees in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions. How many beds does the hospital have?
The hospital currently is licensed for 206 beds. When the new wing is open, 76 of the beds from the current Medical and Surgical floors will be moved to the new bed tower.
